W magazine's Musical Muses

The love affair between music and fashion has never been hotter, says W magazine, as they pair fashion's top designers with their musical muses.

Florence Welch and Frida Giannini

"I was captivated by her eccentric style and her willingness to dare," says Frida Giannini, Gucci's creative director, of Florence Welch.

Donatella Versace and M.I.A.

"Her music and style seemed so fresh and innovative," says Donatella Versace of seeing M.I.A. for the first time in 2007.

Diplo and Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang put Diplo in his ad campaign for his T men's wear line this past spring.

Yoko Ono and Proenza Schouler

"We're really attracted to independent spirits, people who don't follow trends," Lazaro Hernandez (right) tells W, who with his co designer at Proenza Schouler, Jack McCollough picked Ono as their muse. "Yoko pretty much personifies that."

George Craig and Christopher Bailey

"For me, George embodies the modern British look," says Bailey, Burberry's creative director, of the frontman of the British indie rock group One Night Only. Bailey picked Craig for Burberry's spring 2010 ad campaign, alongside actress Emma Watson.

Esperanza Spalding and Francisco Costa

"I admire her passion and confidence- she is truly a free spirit," Francisco Costa tells W. "My favorite part of the shoot was singing together in Portuguese."

Janelle Monae and Karl Lagerfeld

"We liked each other from the first second on," says Karl Lagerfeld of Monae. "Not just because of our style, but also the name: Janelle rhymes with Chanel, no?"

Kanye West and Rodarte

"It's one of the most incredible shows you'll ever see," says Kate Mulleavy (right) of seeing West perform at Coachella in April. "I think it's because he's such a visual artist as well."
