Fluvia Lacerda isn’t your typical plus size model. For starters, she once worked as a nanny after immigrating to the United States from Brazil to pursue a better life. Little did she know that one day she would be called “the plus size Gisele Bundchen.”
More than her heritage, though, the thing that truly sets Fluvia apart is her dedication to the very community that her image uplifts. “I don't go home after a photo shoot and [forget] about everything related to what I do for a living,” says Lacerda. “Modeling has led me to meet many women who have struggled with being told they have no value in society. Representing those women has a far higher meaning to me than just a paycheck.” It’s no wonder, then, that she was voted Full Figured Fashion Week’s Plus Model of the Year, an honor that she doesn’t take lightly.
At size 18, Fluvia is curvier than many plus size models in today’s industry, but that’s something she’s more than proud of. She’s no stranger to breaking down barriers - she was the first (and only ) plus size model to grace the pages of Playboy Brazil (or any Playboy, for that matter).
Next up for this unstoppable force? More campaigns, more editorials, and a summer full of work in Europe. She also has plans to start her own plus size line in her native country. Though her accomplishments are innumerable, Fluvia is most proud of her message. “The best result out of all the hard work I have achieved is knowing that I have liberated the minds of so many women who have struggled with a negative body image their entire lives.”
