Trends Ahead

Change is in the air as designers find decidedly different points of view for the Fall '10 season. Throughout Los Angeles Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Market, designers presented their collections to press, buyers and die-hard fashionistas.

From runway shows to photo installations and parties that showcased the designers along with their muses, a range of new styles emerged for the season. Vintage and feminine-inspired looks were prominent, adding a touch of nostalgia and romance. There was plenty of panache, too, with vintage-inspired costume jewelry, gold and silver hues, and luxe furs to accent the look. In contrast, some designers chose to keep the tone somber and sleek with dark post-apocalyptic themes, a black monotone palette and military regalia. Here is a look at key trends of the season.

THE SHINING:

Shenrouk (complete luxe.....such an artisan beauty) & Eduardo Lucero

Dolan (nice look) & Jen Awad

Ambre Babzo (a perfect choice for a night out)
From futuristic to disco glam, Lady Gaga's fierce on-stage style inspires serious sparkle this season. Sequins, crystals and metallic vinyl are key fabrications.

THE AGE OF ROMANCE:

Jen Awad & Alternative

Emily Factor & martinMARTIN (fabulous design!)

Chelsea Rebelle & Urban Behaviour

Jen Awad & Le Sang Des Betes

Romance is in the air, and designers are getting in touch with their feminine side. Bold floral prints, lace and innerwear as outerwear are key looks.

MILITARY ORDER:

Raw 7 & Creative Recreation (love it!)

Dolce Vita & Chelsea Rebelle (nice cape)

Collective Concepts & Skingraft (love the look)
Blame it on Balmain, but designers are issuing military orders for Fall. From cargo pants to officer jackets and oversize parkas, military is a must-have look for the season.

VINTAGE INSPIRED:

Valerj Pobega

Kim White & Sue Wong

Sourouk & Katy Rodriguez (both are standouts!)

Jane Oh & Jen Awad

Alternative & Ambre Babzoe hat

Designers were feeling nostalgic this season, taking cues from glamorous Hollywood starlets, '60s Beatniks and '20s flappers. The look was as varied as the many decades that inspired them.

ALL ABOUT BLACK :

skingraft (that leather jacket is a work of art!) & martinMARTIN

Baah & Michael Costello (such a classic look.....I love it!)

Maria Lia & Sue Wong (resplendent!)

Black is a perennial favorite for those who prefer to keep it sleek and have an eye on investment dressing. The monotone palette was prominent in many collections.

It appears that designers are ascribing to the saying, "if it ain't broke don't fix it," as they are revamping many of last seasons looks. I personally don't have a problem with it, as many of the looks are amped to the nth degree; something that proved to be quite refreshing and makes for a slew of wardrobe choices.

While I love all the looks, I'm always a fan of sequins and metallics.....I've now added the military looks to my "favorites list." thanks to Balmain, Alexander Wang and Giuseppe Zanotti.
