Trends: The Slip Dress

The dress of the season is the slip, and there’s one for every taste: shimmery taupe silk at the Row, minimalist black at Prada, diaphanous chiffon at Donna Karan, and bright turquoise lace at Marios Schwab. Delicate and sensual, it’s an easy, romantic solution for evening. But can something this bare be worn during the day without looking—or feeling—overexposed? “I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to pull it off without it seeming like I literally just got out of bed,” said bookings editor Valerie Boster.

Vogue’s editors tested a few slinky frocks and found that by putting on a couple of heavier pieces, this otherwise intimate look could become a realistic and grown-up option for the afternoon. Here’s how Boster and her colleagues adapted the slip to their chic, city-girl style.

This is indeed a "tricky" look to pull off. I think that it's important that the dress remain somewhat loose and fluid...tight and "bunchy" is definitely not a good look. Number four is my favorite...the shoes and drapey coat pulls it together for a polished and chic look.
