Paris Dispatch: Designers On The Rise

Sara Bro Jorgensen
This Danish designer is a 2010 graduate of the Royal College of Art, and is on her second collection. Goth iconography, transparencies on silk and pieces of fabric added to create long “peek-a-boo” skirts. The knitwear stands out.




Kirsty Ward
A 2008 grad of Central Saint Martins, she is on her second season of womenswear.
She goes in-depth with materials, structures and layers and transparencies still dominate the unstructured looks with zippers.





Florian Jayet
This French designer is inspired by biology and French couture from the 1920s.
A timeless collection.Black dresses are created using the idea of a skeleton layered with fabrics to give the idea of a second skin where the shoulders and waist are always very structured.





Carlotta Actis Barone
The Italian designer has protested against natural ethical questions and the mistreating of seals. She tells of her ideas with big fake pieces of fur applied to collars and trim. Blues, whites, reds and beige for a silhouette focused on the Inuit tribes of Antarctica with geometric shapes, wide shoulders, corset details and transparencies.



Anja Mlakar
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, this is her second season. She’s inspired by futuristic inspired and presents a sophisticated and elegant image, changing silhouettes by adding a bit of crinoline to mini dresses. Fabrics are woven and layered upon one another in shades of pink.




David Longshaw
This Brit graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2007. He’s a winner of the BFC/Elle Talent award. His pieces have a romantic image inspired by religious virginity, prints and designs on soft fabrics, silks and satins with bright colors.

Fabulous design and detail! Each designer has definitely created their own unique "stamp," which more than distinguishes them from another. While I love them all, I'm drawn to David Longshaw's mix of whimsy and cutting edge chic.
