Keisha Whitaker: Pomp & Circumstance

AWARDS SEASON gives Los Angeles an unmistakable buzz and energy. For me it means out-of-town friends and family come to visit, endless dinners and parties, and don’t even get me started on the gifting suites. But it can also be exhausting, so it’s important to rest, eat properly and drink plenty of water—even if it’s only to counteract all the free Champagne.

The whole thing can sometimes feel like a class reunion— if your class was full of A-listers. I’ve actually pinched myself during some events when I’ve seen legends such as Robert De Niro and Elton John.

As for the fashion, it’s a free-for-all of over-the-top glamour. I often find pictures of Old Hollywood stars for inspiration when choosing dresses or planning hair and makeup. It’s like playing dress up for adults.

The actual event—whether it’s the Golden Globes, Oscars or any major awards show—is always exciting. I’ll never forget the 2007 awards season when my hubby, Forest, won a Golden Globe and an Oscar as well as several other awards.

I am tearing up just writing about it—I’m so proud.

Last year Forest stayed home while I hosted the Oscar red carpet for TV Guide. Later we met up at some afterparties and had a great time.

Whether I end up on the carpet or the couch this year, one thing is for sure—it will be a night to remember.
