My Favorite Holiday Window Displays

Barneys New York

Here we meet Ms. Illy, the centerpiece of Doonan’s windows. Ms. Illy is fashioned from recycled Illy espresso tins and foil. Doonan and his team used 300 three-kilo Illy tins, 250 foil bags, and 250 8.8-oz. Illy cans to create her. Ms. Illy has an espresso machine headpiece (Illy’s Francis X1 iperEspresso machine), a coffee-scoop earring, and a festive holiday garland made from 300 paper cups.

The Italian coffee company will be providing complimentary espresso and cappuccino to shoppers on the 9th floor of Barneys Madison Avenue throughout the holiday season. Illy’s master barista Giorgio Milos will also be making special appearances at the Madison Avenue flagship store during the month of December.

Bergdorf Goodman

In “Day Tripping,” a spontaneous jaunt to the moon is depicted by a futuristic spacescape inspired by the 1902 silent film Le Voyage Dans la Lune, by Georges Melies. We can’t help but think of Hussein Chalayan’s 2007 collection and Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space flights when peering into this twinkling time machine.

We see a crimson-lipped mannequin clad in a bespoke striped Naem Khaan sequined suit surrounded by nautical antiquities like intricate ship models, a bronze porthole, and a wooden steering wheel. A stuffed striped marlin and a miniature first mate complete the thoughtfully designed tableau, which makes you want to immediately book a ticket on a cruise ship bound for some exotic locale.

Henri Bendel

“Henri Bendel is the most romantic and the most classic,” says Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams about these carefully curated windows. “The feeling is very 1940s movie set—optimistic and glorious. It is so wonderful to see a design element on the exterior that activates the city. We love the old movie style of the New York streets, with the signage and storefronts,” says Robin Standefer. “It is a New York that we are all still fond of.”

Go check out this holiday magic for yourself. We promise it will get you in the mood to start shopping.

Prints, prints, fabulous prints! I'm working on mixing leopard or cheetah together and with other prints without looking cheesy or overdone. I'll definitely take a cue from this group!

Michelle Obama Hides New Clothes From Barack!

Part of Michelle Obama's appeal has always been the feeling that minus the White House and Nobel Peace Prize winning leader of the free world husband, she's just like one of us. Well, when it comes to shopping, it seems Michelle really is just like every woman on earth.

n an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC, consummate fashion icon Michelle revealed how she's not above pulling the oldest trick in the book on her husband - pretending her new purchase is just 'that old thing':

Barack: She's got to sneak in something, you know...
Michelle: Like, that's not new.
Barack: She's got that old strategy -'No, no, that's old'.
Michelle: Yeah.
Barack: Meaning that she bought it a month ago, it's the first time she's wearing it, but...
Michelle: Technically.
Barack: ...Technically it's not brand new.
Michelle: It's not new.

"It's A Fringe Thing"

(WWD)

What an absolutely luscious assortment! I get a chill just looking at all of that fringe "dripping" from each bag! As a HUGE fan of a little, or a lot of fringe detailing (mostly a lot!), I anxiously await each season's accessory offerings, hoping that there will be many a fringed bag from which to choose. Ahhh....it does my heart good to know that the trend continues!
